Running Dictationππππ
Nowadays, a lot of teachers shift from traditional teaching methods into new teaching methods. As I think, learning English is boring without doing fun and creative activities. Role plays, games, storytelling ,running dictation, projects, drama, songs , solving puzzles are some of them.
Running Dictation is an energetic, interactive classroom activity where students work in pairs or small groups to read, memorize, communicate and write short pieces of text. It combines movement, teamwork, memory skills and language practice. I did this activity with grade 6 students. I will briefly explain how I did that activity with my students. First, I put them into 4 groups. I asked them to come outside because I wanted some space to do that interesting activity. I placed short paragraph texts on chairs. There should be a writer for each group and others are runners. Runners have to run to the test, read it, remember it and return. The writer should stay at the desk and write what the runners dictate. The aim of this activity is creating the text accurately.
Running dictation helps students to improve their vocabulary, grammar, listening, speaking, writing, reading comprehension. This one activity integrates all four language skills. It encourages teamwork and communication. This can build confidence and social skills. This activity is suitable for any level of students. Teacher can adapt the text according to their age level. A short story broken into sentence strips, a set of instructions, a riddle or puzzle, a dialogue, and vocabulary sentences are some of dictation texts. When they are doing this activity, students must read, remember and retell sentences. This can improve students' memory and concentration. Since the activity feels like a game, students learn without fear of making mistakes. So, this is a memorable learning activity.
